What is the Holiday Season Drunk Driving Campaign
The holiday season is about celebrating this time of year with loved ones and getting into the holiday spirit. Likewise, many people get behind the wheel impaired from celebrating this festive season. Although it is illegal to drive drunk in 50 states, it still occurs regularly each and every day. More than a quarter of all crash fatalities are alcohol-related fatalities. Alcohol, controlled substances, prescriptions, and over-the-counter medications can cause impairments. The Holiday Season Drunk Driving Campaign is designed to bring awareness to the dangers of operating a vehicle under the influence.
What Drivers Experience Under the Influence:
- slow reaction time
- weak concentration
- limited short-term memory function
- difficulty perceiving time or distance
- limited short-term memory function
Similarly, campaigns titled Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and If You Feel Different, You Drive Different; Drive High – Get a DUI were announced between December 2021-January 2022. Law enforcement agencies increase patrols around this festive time of year to decrease the likelihood of fatalities occurring.
How to Plan If You Are Going to Be Drinking This Holiday Season
- plan out a sober driving or ride home before ingesting alcohol
- do not let any individual behind the wheel if they have been drinking
- always wear your seatbelt
- if you recognize a drunk driver on the road, call your local law enforcement
